On a recent podcast Candis Owens said about the SKIMS Adaptive Collection by Kim Kardashian that features a disabled model in the campaign include phrases such as, “I really I don’t understand how far we’re going to take this inclusivity thing, I really don’t get it, and if I am wrong educate me,” “[A model in a wheelchair] seems ridiculous” and “Whose idea was this? Was it your idea? Okay, you’re fired”.
She later went on to say that she did not realize the advertisement was for adaptive clothing. She went on to say that she did not understand the need for people to be represented.
I imagine if a wheelchair user was cast in a commercial for a sports bar, there might be more accessible seating in some public establishments.
I spend my money where I feel welcome. I, ”vote with my dollars” and will not spend money where I am not felt welcome.
I do not want her banned or boycotted. I just unsubscribed.
