Joe started with an addiction to girls. First he stole for them. Then he committed credit card fraud in order to entertain them. Then he discovered as long as he had checks, he had money. As a precursor to Kevin Mitnick Joe took, “fake ti till you make it” to a whole new Level. Joe found out that you did not need to take the time to get a formal education to become an expert in any field. He just needed enough to get by until his knowledge and lies ran out.
When Joe’s luck and lies ran out he became an international fugitive. Once he became Criminal Justice System impaired he stopped being part of the problem and he became part of the solution. Protecting the world from Briefcase nukes one week. Catching arsonists shortly after. Catching spies both on Foreign soil and domestically. Being a biker and professor and somehow meeting his soulmate in-between.
For God And Country: The never ending project.
6 or 7 years ago I decided that I wanted to write a story about a bad guy. I started to write a story and then I put it aside.
Then I heard about a DEA spokesman who was indicted for defrauding at least a dozen companies of 4.4 million dollars. He had an elaborate scheme to convince contractors to hire him as a cover for a covert CIA operation. I based a fictional character on him and wrote the book Malarky.
I picked up on writing For God and Country again I fictionalized other events in history and added them into the story.
I called one of the people the story was based on and I took his advise and added another 21 chapters to the beginning.
When I was in college I once called Kurt Saxton, author of The Poor Mans James Bond to ask for permission to use his words in an academic paper. Permission was granted. (I sighted him appropriately.)
When I wrote Modern Military Minutemen the author (Larry Durham) of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division Handbook allowed me to utilize some of his sage words.
(I sighted him appropriately.)
For God and Country was proofread by two professional proofreaders. One is from Eastern Europe. She has a masters degree in English literature. She takes my poorly worded American English changes it to better European English and I need to translate it back to NJ/NY English.
While It was being proofread I was working on other stuff.
I got it back and accidentally lost the latest version. I think I found the correct backup. I decided to proofread it again. I made some changes, accidentally deleted a chapter and had to hunt for it in an earlier document.
Just when I thought it was safe to publish. The manuscript would not import correctly. After troubleshooting I found I needed to add 97 page breaks, 97 colons, 97 returns and 97 formatting changes.
Often I would read historic events and think that would make a good story. Hence For God and Country was born. (Along with others)
I checked the characters names because, like Tom Clancy’s characters some of mine move to other stories. In the process I discovered things I want to change in the description for the book Undercover Elvis.
As I proofread the 130k document I am tempted to add more chapters. The world is not ready for that.
Each chapter has an important historical quote.
